Covid Support and Relief to weavers in Chinnalempet village in Salem
Chinnalempet is a small village near Dindugal in Salem district in Tamil Nadu. This village has weavers who have been practicing weaving for several generations. The people in the village are dependent solely on weaving for their source of income.
When Covid hit, just like other segments of society were impacted, these weavers got very badly impacted and struggled for their daily livelihood.
Thraahi stepped up and through support from well-wishers and donors helped them with not just groceries but also with payment of school fees of the children of these weavers.
WISH TREE
Thraahi partnered with the CSR wing of Hexaware to help the students of chinnalempet dare dream and bring a ray of hope.
Being a student means there are a lot of other requirements apart from just fees. The students need books, notebooks, stationeries, bags, and so on. Through the “Wish Tree” initiative, Thraahi and Hexaware have jointly extended their support to over 250 plus students by fulfilling their wishes and bringing big smiles to their faces. It was heartwarming to see the excited students when they were given school bags, stationeries, toys, notebooks, football, and other items each wished for.
Back to School – 2023
Thraahi in association with Hexaware organized “Back to School” Initiative in June 23. Over 250 students in the community school were provided with school kits comprising of school bag, notebooks and stationery items.
Inauguration of Thraahi tuition and Computer Learning Centre
In October 23, on the auspicious day of the Vijayadashami, Thraahi in association with Idea foundation and Hexaware, moved into an exclusive space and commenced weekend computer learning classes and daily tuition support for students. This is being organized completely free of cost to the students in the community. At present we have close to 100 students benefitting from this program who are under the guidance of 5 qualified and experienced teachers. The students are very keen and excited to learn operating the computers.
Eye camp for students and General community
Thraahi in association with Mission for Vision and Hexaware organized a free 3 day eye camp for the school children and the local community. There were over 500 beneficiaries from this program. Free spectacles were distributed to those in need. Cataract surgeries were conducted free of cost to the elderly people in the community.
Students engagement activities
Festivals 2023: With the help of the parents, Thraahi celebrated festivals like Diwali and Pongal at the Centre.
Vacation classes: During the Xmas vacation, yoga and drawing classes were organized thereby ensuring the students engage themselves productively and develop their talent in the areas of their interests.
Republic Day 24: We also celebrated the Republic day where students were educated about the leaders of India, the states and the uniqueness. Fancy dress contests and drawing competitions were organized as well.
Support for Tuticorin flood victims
Thraahi, Hexaware and Idea Foundation collaborated jointly to extend support and provide relief to those who suffered due to floods in Tuticorin. Our volunteers and students worked untiringly to provide relief to over 1000 families. Flood relief kits consisting of grocery, bed sheets, sarees, dhotis and towels were distributed by the volunteers who met the victims in person and extended support.
